My name is Elise Melanie, and it's no secret that I'm a book lover...and in combination with my passion for drawing, this has become dangerous for my free time!
I am originally a graphic designer. Over the years, I became something of a logo guru. This creative influence is reflected in my drawing style and my preference for working in Adobe Illustrator.
As I completed more illustrations, I realized how deeply my passion for this craft had grown. Encouraged by the enthusiasm of fellow book loves and authors, I decided to take the leap and officially register Jester Story as a trade name!

MY process
Although the final artwork is vector-based, I create all my sketches in programs such as ProCreate or Adobe Photoshop. Sketching directly in a vector program feels a little bit like reading a physical book in the dark: apparently, a magical power I wasn't blessed with.
Once a sketch is approved, I trace everything by hand in Adobe Illustrator, building the illustration piece by piece. There are tools that can do this automatically, but they simply don't give me the clean lines and precise shapes I'm aiming for. So... I stick to the old-fashioned method: me, my pen/mouse, and a lot of clicking...
About the Style
My illustrations are created as VECTOR ARTWORK, allowing them to be resized, rearranged and adapted without ever losing their crisp, clean quality. Whether you'd like to use the artwork on a bookmark, book cover, embroidered patch, invitation, merchandise or even a large poster, every detail remains beautifully sharp.

• Pixels vs. Vector - What's the Difference?
Most digital illustrations are made from pixels - tiny colored squares that together form an image. They look beautiful at their intended size, but enlarging them too much can make them appear blurry.
Vector is different. Instead of pixels, vectors use mathematical formulas to create shapes that can be scaled up or down infinitely without losing the quality of the artwork. Whether it's a small sticker or a huge poster, the vector artwork always remains perfectly crisp.
A bit of a technical story that, as a client or viewer, you naturally don't have to worry about. But perhaps it's still interesting to know, as it gives you a little more insight into how I work.
• Small Note about Adobe Illustrator
You may notice that Adobe Illustrator is often written as "Ai." Despite the similar name, it has nothing to do with Artificial Intelligence. Rest assured, every illustration is drawn entirely by hand.
